The $26 million Dandenong Market Redevelopment is nearing completion, with the official opening of the new General Merchandise Hall held in October 2009, and the fruit and vegetable section opened in May 2010. All fruit and vegetable stallholders have moved in, offering a great variety of fresh fruit and vegetables including Asian greens and organic produce. To make your shopping experience even easier, all of the aisles have been widened, ensuring the market is accessible to all shoppers, and in addition to the new fruit and vegetable section and the merchandise hall, the food vans have also moved back to the Southern food court area. If you haven’t already been down to check out the new-look market now is a great time to check out all the changes. There is ample parking available at the market at King Street car park and Clow Street multi-deck car park.
During the next few months a number of other works will be underway, including the produce hall and food court including demolition and excavation works, and work on the back of house, cool rooms and offices. Meat, fish and deli traders will be relocated to the new General Merchandise Hall during the works. The Dandenong Market Redevelopment is expected to be completed by mid 2010. The market redevelopment is a vital part of the revitalisation of Central Dandenong along with the Drum Theatre and State Government works. The market still is open Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
