Established in 1989, the Interfaith Network is a group of diverse cultural and religious faiths, who have chosen to work with the Greater Dandenong Council to promote peace and harmony within the municipality. Unique in Australia, the group consists of various traditional and multi-faith groups who meet monthly at the Council offices. Their goal is simple - promoting understanding, respect and tolerance for each other's beliefs by living together in peace and goodwill. The network strives to achieve the vision of 'Many Faiths, One People'. Local leaders and the faith communities who support the ideals of the Interfaith Network. The leaders attend monthly meetings, contribute to the development of the Network, and assist in the planning and participate in the activities of the Network. After participating as observers, faith leaders may formalise their community membership by signing the common statement at the Annual Gathering. Individuals may also join the Network as observers on a permanent basis or attend meetings or events when involved in projects with an Interfaith component.
