How Rates are Calculated

The final sum of rates payable by a ratepayer is determined by the total value (CIV - Capital Improved Value) of the property, multiplied by the rate in the dollar. Council decides on the rate in the dollar each year to determine the rates payable.

The CIty of Greater Dandenong adopted a 2.5 per cent increase in rates for 2016-17 based on Capital Improved Value and the rate in the dollar set by the Council.

For residential rate payers, there is a residential garbage charge in addition to general rates. This is included in the rates notice and is paid with rates. There is also a State Government Landfill Levy included.
