Council has a host of interesting volunteer roles available including museum tour guides, reading buddies, assisting at festivals and events and much more. 

You’re sure to find something of interest and you can volunteer a little or a lot!

Be an ambassador

Be part of the fun and excitement of Council’s festivals and events by becoming a Council Ambassador. Ambassadors provide a warm welcome, information and conduct simple surveys at public events.

Volunteer profile: the Davidson family

Grandmother Sandra signed up in 2006 as a Council Ambassador and regularly attends Council events to guide visitors.

Her twin granddaughters Ashlea and Bronty wanted to join the fun and signed up when they turned 16.

“I love meeting people and the events are always a lot of fun,” Sandra said.


Support our elderly residents

Volunteers help make the life of our elderly residents more comfortable in a number of ways including delivering meals, having a chat or assisting with events at our Planned Activity Programs, delivering library books and more.

Assist and encourage participants, who are newly arrived in Australia, to practice and learn basic English in order to enhance their skills and opportunities.

Volunteering for administration and office support jobs may help in gaining a future career in secretarial or receptionist positions or you may already have this experience to support this position within our community.

Supporting our children

Supporting the needs of children and families within the municipality is imperative.  Volunteering at a local play group can provide so much enjoyment.

Make a positive impact in a young person’s life

Volunteers are needed in a number of roles to help guide and support our local young people.
Volunteer as a mentor driver with the L2P program or tutor students through the Reading Buddy program.

Volunteer profile: Ratna Rajavel

L2P driving mentor Ratna is helping young people gain far more than a licence – they are gaining a far brighter future.

“I bumped into one of the young people the other day who had just gotten a job after quite a bit of time out of work.

“A driver’s licence was a must for the job and now has a whole new future.”

Interested in Dandenong’s history?

Step back in time by volunteering at our beautiful Heritage Hill Museum and Historic Gardens through hosting tours or cataloguing heritage items.

Cultural Heritage Volunteers

Be part of the history of Greater Dandenong.  Work with artworks and heritage items from the City of Greater Dandenong collection. The City of Greater Dandenong is seeking Digitisation Volunteers to work with the City of Greater Dandenong Heritage team to scan documents, prints, paintings, and objects, which are significant to the City of Greater Dandenong for display online.  Volunteers will work with a small team to learn new skills for digital archiving, scanning, and photography.

Share your love of the arts as a volunteer at Drum Theatre or Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre.

Help organise youth music events

If you are a young person aged 12 to 25 years, you can join the Freeza Muso Network and Meltdown Committees and gain skills in event management and run awesome local events for young people.

You can gain skills that will assist you in your future including promotion, bookings acts, sound, lighting, DJing, hospitality and stage management.

Volunteer Resource Service

The City of Greater Dandenong has teamed up with South East Volunteers to create the Greater Dandenong Volunteer Resource Service - a new volunteer resource service in the local area.

This exciting new initiative will provide a personalised service to assist organisations in finding the right volunteer. This will be done through either face to face interviews or over the phone.
