Australia Day Festival
Australia Day is a significant celebration for the Greater Dandenong community with over 11,000 local residents expected to enjoy the festival with family, neighbours and friends.
With residents from more than 150 different nations, Australia Day means different things to different people. We also acknowledge that this day can be a difficult day for some members of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and we are respectful of that. Council sees this day as a chance to celebrate what connects us – a celebration of our similarities and our differences.
Our Australia Day Festival takes place in Dandenong Park and we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land and honour them in our festivities. Our event will include the traditional Welcome to Country and a sacred Smoking Ceremony.
The award winning Australia Day Festival will be held in Dandenong Park, corner of Pultney and Foster streets on Saturday 26 January 2019, from 3pm to 9.30pm.
This year, we’re proud to announce that the event will be bigger and better than ever, with three areas of live entertainment! After its popularity at New Year’s Eve, we’re excited to launch the new Australia Day Festival Dreaming Space Tent, which will showcase circus skills, magic and dance through interactive performances and workshops. Check out the Dreaming Space program, alongside the programs for our Main Stage and the FReeZa Youth Stage below.
This free all-ages festival hosts the presentation of the Australia Day Awards. The event will be a jam-packed day full of multicultural performances, with roving live entertainment, circus and magic acts, community and market stalls, exciting rides (costing $2 - $6), the Kinder-Gym, marshmallow toasting with the CFA and Noble Park Scouts, free family activities and, of course, the fireworks finales at 9.25pm.
Want to get two free ride tokens and avoid parking? Ditch the car and cycle to Dandenong Park. We’ll provide you with free valet parking and give you two free ride tokens to thank you for travelling sustainably.
