Have your Say on the Streetscape Improvements to the Hemmings Street Shopping Centre

21 May 2018

City of Greater Dandenong is planning to make streetscape improvements to the Hemmings Street Shopping Centre.

This Hemmings Street Shopping Centre Streetscape Improvements project builds on the ideas that you may have provided at the previous community workshop held in 2013.

The four areas that the community told us they would like to see improved were:

  • Safety of the area
  • Attractiveness – look and feel of the street
  • Social Cohesion – provide ways to bring everyone together
  • Amenity – improved parking, seating and lighting

Since receiving your feedback, Council has installed more trees, CCTV cameras and shopping centre signage. Council is now considering improvements to the street layout between Jones Road and Purdy Avenue.

Concept Information

Three concept options have been prepared and all the three options include these below common features:

  • New pavement along the northern side of Hemmings Street between Jones Road and Purdy Avenue

  • A raised road pavement at Wilma Avenue intersection to improve safety and amenity of the pedestrian crossing

  • New seating and planting at Jones, Wilma, and Purdy Avenue Corner

  • More trees in the Council car park

  • More seats along kerbs for socializing

Consider the distinct features in the three concepts as outlined in the below illustrations:

In considering the three concept options as outlined above, Council would like to ask your option on:

  1. Which option is your favourite option?

  2. Why is this option your favourite?

  3. Do you have other ideas/ feedback for how the options could be improved?
