Seize the day and be a Young Leader in Greater Dandenong

07 February 2019

Council is looking for young people aged 16–25 who live, work or study in Greater Dandenong, to take part in its 2019 Young Leaders’ Program.

The leadership program provides unique opportunities for young people to develop their skills across a wide range of topics including public speaking, media and promotion, effective communication, conflict resolution, stress management, and project planning and implementation.

Greater Dandenong Mayor Cr Roz Blades said Young Leaders was now in its tenth year and was a great stepping stone for young people wanting to play a more active role in their local community.

She said as part of the program young people worked in small teams to develop and deliver a community project.

“As a result of this program the potential young leaders of Greater Dandenong are learning new skills and discovering the tools they require to really make a difference in our community,” Mayor Blades said.

Over the years successful community projects developed through the Young Leaders Program include:

  • Make Your Mark – a youth forum to promote volunteering opportunities for young people

  • Sole Sistas – a community based walking group for young women which promotes the health benefits of physical activity.

Running between April and October 2019, the Young Leaders meets every Tuesday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
