Payment of Council Rates and Coronavirus (COVID-19)

During the COVID-19 pandemic Council has seen a significant increase in members within our community contacting us for support. Council has therefore extended its support that was introduced in April.

Council would encourage all ratepayers to continue to pay their rates on time if possible. The next instalment of rates and charges is due on 30 September 2020.

If at that time you are in a position where you cannot pay your rates and charges, please contact Council on 8571 1000 or email council@cgd.vic.gov.au

Things all ratepayers can do right now to reduce the balance of their rate account during COVID-19

  • Residents can make smaller weekly/fortnightly payments immediately so the amount due on 30 September is much smaller.

  • Enter into a payment arrangement with Council to pay your rates off over an extended period.

  • Enter into a temporary payment arrangement with Council where you will only be requested to make payments you can afford.

Further assistance for residential properties

  • If residents have lost employment and having difficulty paying rates for your principal place of residence, you may qualify for further assistance under Council's Rates and Charges Hardship Policy.

  • For those residents already receiving a pension rebate, Council will be providing additional relief in the way of a further $100 waiver of your rates.

Further assistance for commercial and industrial properties

  • If your business or tenant has been shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic and you will not be able to meet payment of your council rates and charges, please contact Council to discuss what further assistance can be provided.

  • Council will consider a hold on your account for an extended period if a payment arrangement is not possible. This will need to be assessed by Council on a case by case basis.
