This program is run across four sessions, one per week. It is encouraged to attend all four sessions in order to get the most out of the program, but not necessary.
Session 1: The Zoo in You – Writing with animals!
Animals can be powerful mirrors to ourselves and our behaviours. In this session we will look through eyes of animals to make us more humane, and we will learn how to use animals as metaphors to speak out great truths.
Session 2: Memoir – How to capture your story
I have published three works of memoir and I am currently working on my fourth. It has been both a supreme challenge and a wondrous delight to write in such a self-searching genre. Let me share with you some of what I've learnt along the way and give you some pointers on how to begin and what needs to be considered. And we'll get you started on your masterwork.
Session 3: Passion Poems – How to write about things you really care about
This session is about how to turn your passion into a poem, whether that's climate change, global injustice or maybe even something like astronomy. How do you, as a writer, help other people FEEL what you're feeling. How do you change people's minds and even change the world? Let's start writing for change.
Session 4: Sharing, Submitting and Publishing – How to get your writing out into the world
This session is about the avenues you can use to get your writings out into the world, right from online sharing; through to submitting to competitions and journals; and on to publishing through a mainstream publisher or self-publishing. It will be your kick-starter to getting your words and work out into the world.
